Kory Burns studies the structure of materials in his BEAM (Burns' Electronic and Advanced Materials) Lab in order to modify them for the applications in which they were designed to perform. His team’s latest approach is to use machine learning to identify defects that would otherwise go unspotted through human identification in transmission electron micrographs.
